Anthony Ziolek
Studio Director and Lead Designer
I was raised between Europe and Australia in a design-driven family - my mother Anya, a designer and my father Leszek, an engineer. The experience of traveling with my family from a young age gave me a great opportunity to experience many countries and cultures, while the passion for design was encouraged and immersive. This context sets the foundations for what I'm building today - Studio Anya.
After finishing my schooling in Australia, the natural progression for me was to study a Bachelor of Product Design and Innovation at the University of South Australia. During these studies, I began working for my father in the construction industry. Over time I saw a lack of design integration and problem-solving and by the time I graduated in 2012, I seized the opportunity to start designing my own solutions for project planning and architectural design.
I discovered, while residential buildings were designed for human occupancy, they were rarely designed for human use. I started to approach my architectural designs like I would product design - principles of ergonomics, construction optimisation and environmental and sustainability considerations come first. These principles are clearly underlined by the design philosophy - ‘form follows function’.
The beauty of a space can be determined by how well it works.
I strongly believe that an environment has an influence on the individual, and after my first few projects, it was clear to me that I aspire to design spaces for people to live in, to be in. I endeavor to use my experience to curate personalised spaces for clients - to take their individual needs and requirements and interpret those into a space that satisfies and improves their lifestyle.
